Catahoula Recreation Off Road Park in Catahoula Parish near Sicily Island in central Louisiana stands apart from the coastal mud parks that define much of Louisiana's commercial OHV landscape: the park's terrain diversity (rock crawling, rock bouncing, steep technical climbs, deep woods single-track, and serious water crossings alongside conventional ATV and UTV trail riding), reflects the unique geology of the Sicily Island Hills, a cluster of upland terrain rising above the Red River floodplain in one of Louisiana's most geographically unusual landscapes. Sicily Island sits in the middle of the Mississippi Alluvial Valley on a formation of Pleistocene-era upland that never flooded during the Mississippi's alluvial deposition, creating a forested hill island surrounded by flat delta farmland: terrain with the erosion-carved gullies, exposed rock, and varied topography that makes genuine technical off-road riding possible in a state where most of the land is flat. The park accommodates the full technical vehicle spectrum: ATVs, side-by-sides, motorcycles, 4x4s, rock crawlers, and modified competition builds. Primitive camping is free; RV sites with hookups are available. Annual memberships run approximately $200 for unlimited weekend access. The park has established a regional reputation for hosting major events including the Spring Fling, drawing serious technical off-road enthusiasts from across the Gulf South (318-729-1538).
